For the Sole

After working at Concepts (a Boston based sneaker boutique) for over a year, I have gained an appreciation and obsession for sneakers. I created For the Sole to share my love and interest for sneaker culture. Within this zine, I cover topics such as my first “hype” pair of sneakers, my favorite sneaker at the moment, a catalog of iconic colorways and models, and how the popularity of sneakers changed luxury fashion.

The front and back covers of the zine feature the texture of a shoebox with stickers reminiscent of size labels. The opening spread is a full-bleed scan of tissue paper, relating to the experience of opening a box of shoes. All images within the zine were designed by myself, drawing inspiration from retro sneaker or skate ads. I chose to use the typeface Black Mamba from Swiss Typefaces as the headline text because of its expressive and edgy design, relating to the creative and thoughtful stories behind the majority of sneakers.
